Listening

When is the last time you walked away from a conversation feeling “Listened to and Understood?”

 Here is the real question. “What is the purpose of a conversation?” For most people it is: “To get my point across”. This is very one sided thinking. Sure you can get your point across but what about the other person?

A conversation is between two people. You both want to get your point across. This means that both of you need to listen.

The next real question is: “How do you listen?”

Do you listen so that you can respond with your own witty thoughts?

     OR

Do you listen to understand the other person?  

The old saying: “Treat others as you want to be treated” comes to mind.

True listening is a gift.

It creates that feeling of “I’ve been listened to and I feel that I am now understood”.
